Tom McCarthy, “On Dodgem Jockeys,” The Verb (BBC Radio 3) Friday 23 September 2011
In this programme (”Tom McCarthy and Poet Leontia Flynn”), Tom — presented as a “prose shape-shifter” and “a verby kind of man”, read a new text in which he argues that the “most noble and heroic” calling in this life is that of the dodgem jockey: “They were there at your conception and the universe’s, when circulating atoms deviated and collided”. He goes on to discuss the essay with presenter Ian McMillan.
